Lesson 8: Basic Spanish into Classrooms
In a globalized world, knowing many languages is a huge asset.
The goal of this module is to show the importance of how a foreign language can be used as a hook to engage foreign students into classroom learning.
Six W's:
a) Who: This class is offered to any teacher willing to participate. However, only 25 teachers can be added to the Skype meeting.
b) What: The main objectives of the module is to recognize the utility of Spanish as a hook for hispanic students to be engaged in the class.
c) Where: For the conference, the platform will be Skype. You can login with your computer or your cellphone, from anywhere, if you have a stable internet connection.
d) Why: It is important to keep improving our learning assets as instructors. Is not only about what we teach but also about how we teach and who are we teaching.
e) When: April 20th, 6 pm.
f) What role: Teachers are allowed to engage with other participants, but the role is mainly as an observer. Also, you will be asked to complete a graded assignment to get the full marks on this module, if you want the digital certificate.
Participants can explain how they use in their classes and give an oral demonstration if they want.
The objectives are:
Identify languages as assets to globalize our classrooms.
Comprehend that starting with the class audience, great modules can be developed to teach a topic. For students who require a deeper knowledge of this topic, special classes can be offered.

Hook: A hook is any kind of tool, class segment, action or phrase used to engage students into one topic. Its also used to regain attention of students and to keep the class entertained and the students positively focused on the topic.
It can be an activity, a phrase, a gesture. Anything you can come with. And if it's funny, that's a plus.
Observation: This conference is focused on the Spanish language, but the concepts can be applied to any language. There are no limits when it comes to improving classes!
Assessment

1- Your reflection must have at least 600 words.
2- Two things must be clearly addressed, the use of languages as a tool to engage students and how you would apply it in your classroom.

Summary
Hooks can be really powerful tools to engage students and keep them focused in the class.
Using languages as hook provides not only an entertaining and useful skill, but also encourages the participation of foreign students by integrating them into the group.
Languages can be used to provide a sense of globalization to the classroom.
